Shooting the Breeze: Abstract patterns

Architecture, modern and traditional, has been a hot topic every time town centre regeneration is discussed.

Birmingham has been in a state of building and rebuilding for a number of years but one of its most recent buildings is a startling tribute to modernism.

Situated in the Bullring, Birmingham's new Selfridges store is designed to make an impact straight away.

Selfridges Birmingham is notable for hundreds of silver discs stuck to the side of a oddly shaped structure reminiscent of the Guggenheim in Bilbao.

An otherworldly building in an otherwise mundane looking city centre which is being improved month by month.
