Poetry Pleases: Request
In this poem David Bennett expresses the extent of his love for a very special lady.
Whenever in my solitude
The walls of my silence hurt,
Remember you are there.
If ever my remoteness seems complete
And your enquiring word goes unheard,
Remember you are there.
Whenever I seem to shun
The sunlight of your eyes
And my blindness seems complete,
Remember you are there.
You are there inside the barriers that you see
Inside where you have always been,
A part of me.
The only walls I make,
And those you’ll never break,
Are there to keep you in
And part of me.
If ever you should feel
Because of me
That we should part,
Think only this of me:
I love you, love you, love you
With all my heart.
