Poetry Pleases: A Song Of Summer

In this poem Brian Jenkinson thinks longingly of summertime in England.

Sing a song of summertime,
Of butterflies and bees,
Of blue skies and white clouds,
Green fields and shady trees.

Sing a song of summer
In a quiet country lane,
Wild roses and bird song,
Warm breeze and cooling rain.

Sing a song of summertime
Beside the rolling sea,
Of high cliffs and rock pools,
And seagulls soaring free.

Sing a song of summer
In a garden with a stream,
With bright flowers and wide lawns,
And strawberries and cream.

Sing a song of summer,
Of its memories we store
To cheer us in dull days
When winter comes once more.
