Poetry Pleases: Dating

Kathleen Holmes brings us an amusing rhyming account of the dating game.

I’d hoped for better, Jim, from you!
Even thought you could be true.
And ‘cause such fools as I exist
I’m dumped, and never once been kissed.

Then, Bill, Italian food we loved,
Even music preference proved.
Alas, Samantha lived close by;
I’m at a distance ¾ so, “Goodbye”.

Strong Peter yearned to share my bed,
Took offence when “No” was said,
Buttoned up his shirt real quick,
Departed with his hair so slick!

And Richard took me for a ride,
Meals out, presents, more besides.
Australia took him far away ¾
When he returned, no more to say!

Fed up, I went out for a walk.
Phil’s in his garden, stopped to talk.
He said, “Come in and have some tea.”
That’s how it is with Phil and me.
