Poetry Pleases: Lost Love
Pity sets its own disguise when love is gone, says David Bennett in this moving poem.
Deep sadness lies within her eyes
For pity sets its own disguise
When love is gone.
The angels know how my heart aches
To feel her close and warm embrace,
But she is gone.
She knows my pain and sought to soothe,
But kindness cannot hide the truth
When love is gone.
When evening clouds rest on the hill
My thoughts e’en now are with her still,
As is my love.
Another’s love now takes her mind
To places that I couldn’t find
Although I tried.
Has she forgotten how we played,
Made magic in our love’s charade,
And how I cried?
