Shooting the Breeze: Norton Internet Security 2005

PC World's latest special offer is very good value for money.

If you use a Windows PC to go online, you will be aware of the often repeated need to have adequate internet protection when you go online.

For just £24.99 this weekend and part of next week, PC World (the UK high street PC retailer, will sell you a boxed copy of their latest software to protect you as you go online. Internet Security 2005 contains the latest version of Norton's Antivirus software, personal firewall, anti-spam, parental control, and privacy control software.

This represents a saving of 50% on the usual price - you would have to hunt high and low to find someone selling it that cheap and this version comes with some fairly self-explanatory manuals.

The PC World edition of the software even includes GoBack 4.0 which helps you protect the files on your computer in case of a disaster due to virus, or if you simply accidentally empty the recycle bin. If the worst happens, GoBack will help you recover files you thought were gone.

While setting the software up can take an hour or so, more if you are still using dial-up to access the internet as you will need to download the latest patches and virus definitions.

Once installed and updated, you spend a little time customising the software to your own system and preferences and you will have to expect a regular set of virus definitions to be sent via the Live Update internet facility.
