Kiwi Konexions: No Christmas?
"Don't walk across the road when trouble's on your side,'' says Glen Taylor in this simple, yet profound poem - a poem to remind us of the true meaning of Christmas.
Christmas is cancelled this year.
No tree.
No tinsel.
No roasting turkey.
No presents hidden in bright paper.
No relatives. No crowded shops.
No cards. No hassle.
Christmas is cancelled this year.
Christmas is cancelled this year?
Go out into the night,
Gaze up at the sky,
Is that the bright star
Which once shone on Bethlehem?
See a brand new mother
Lift her child
Gaze into its eyes,
And smile,
With love.
Visit the sick neighbour,
Bearing soup and bread.
Lend the listening ear
And the shoulder for the tear.
Don’t walk across the road
When trouble's on your side,
Stop and lend a hand,
Just as He prescribed.
Band aid the bleeding knee cap.
Kiss better things which hurt.
Sit beside the bedside with one
Who soon will leave this earth.
Forget about the hassle,
The chaos and the hype,
But Christmas can’t be cancelled
For He came to us this night.
No, Christmas can’t be cancelled,
For He came to us this night.
