Poetry Pleases: Stewing About Beef

Dave Horner was moved to write a poem about one of life's greatest treats - beef stew!

I made a stew the other day
Of beef with carrots and red wine
It was so good I wanted more
But Thel said again tomorrow we can dine

It had celery and peas and stock
Cubes of flavour, pepper and salt
Mustard French and pure too
To make the flavoursome stew

With care and heat I made it blend
Until the taste was just so good
When it came to sample it
I knew I would not want a pud

We had the hot meal quickly served
With red skin potatoes buttered
And cauliflower cheese to boot
Eaten without one word muttered

There was some left in the pot
We kept it for next day
And when we tasted it again
We really had to say

The stew was tasty and tops
We had to write the list
Of how we put it all together
Just in case something we missed

So now we have the recipe
To use another day
The taste is still just there
It simply won't go away!
