Here's Alison: Splitting Up

Alison Ross's poem defines the heart-ache of a marriage in jeopardy.

Will you take his tiny hands
And me, his eyes and lashes?
Does this marriage split, mean we
Must share our baby’s ashes?
Will you take our daughter’s arms,
And share them one for each?
When she wakes up in the night
And for us both does reach?
Will we split our memories,
And one take all the bad?
While the other’s left with all the times
That were happy sweet and glad?
Will the years that we have shared,
Vanish while you flee?
Breaking all the bonds
That tie you dear, to me?
Will your family turn me down,
And love your new found friend
Will you really break my heart
And call this Dear, the end?
Will this girl find happiness
Based on so much pain,
Or will you dear, have your fling,
And then come home again?
