Kiwi Konexions: Tsunami 2004
Glen Taylor reflects on how, despite sceintific bravado, a natural event can reveal the insignificance of Mankind.
Man walks on the moon
And robots rove on Mars.
Space ships seek the edge of the universe
And satellites spy on the minutiae of Earth.
Presidents beat podiums
And create war, in the name of freedom.
Despots rule, by fear and genocide.
He devastates land
And aid workers feed refugees,
In subhuman camps, with handouts
From the obscene hordes of the wealthy.
He splits the atom,
Harnessing it for peaceful power
And nuclear bombs.
He pulls apart the genetic code,
Altering it for good or evil.
Cures disease
And creates biological weapons.
He pollutes the atmosphere,
Changing climate.
Then works for preservation
And conservation.
He climbs the highest peak,
And plumbs the deepest depth.
Searches back to the origin of time
And predicts the future.
.
He considers himself supreme,
Above all else,
Invincible.
Then --- Tsunami.
The world rocks on its axis,
And Creation reminds us
Of our insignificance.
