Here's Alison: The Poetry Reading
The poet listens with an ear pressed to the bedroom door, an audience of one, while her poems are read aloud. Alison Ross's poem poses a question.
The Poetry reading was held,
To an auduience of ...one,
Behind the nearly shut,
Bedroom door, while I...
The author of these feeble offerings
Suffered cramp...
With my ear pressed to the door,
While her tongue ...
Mutilated my thoughts! My dreams!
Her reading, made my poetry,
Sound discordant and ugly.
But she was so proud of me,
That I stayed outside,
And wondered about authors...
Whose books are read by thousands,
And if...it ever bothers them?
