Here's Alison: Injustice In Post War New Zealand

Two Disney balloons and a cunning brother taught Alison Ross her first lesson in injustice.

There has not been many things that could wind me up and make me angry, but injustice always does so.

I remember the first time I became aware that life isn't always fair. It was centered around some post war balloons. Where my mother got them I dont know, but each of us four children recieved a Disney balloon.

Mine was a Donald Duck. It was very nice but I really wanted the one my brother was given, a Mickey Mouse. It was lovely!

Some days later my brother who was nearly five years older than me, offered me a swop. My Donald Duck for his Mickey Mouse! I was thrilled of course and quickly agreed to his condition of "Clean swop, no returns"

He placed the prize in my hand and took off with the Donald Duck, leaving me with the precious Mickey. Well I blew and blew my heart out but there was no way Mickey would stay blown up. Finally I detected the mi-nute hole that was in it.

My heart broke watching my cheating brother with my once unwanted Donald Duck. I was definately wiser in the future, but it took me a long time to get over the injustice of that balloon swop!
