Here's Alison: Cloning Wish

Alison Ross's poem expresses the desperate wish of a hard-pressed mum.

I wish that I could visit me
And go home when I’m through
And leave the work, all here behind,
For my other self to do.
I’d never come to visit
On Spring Cleaning Day,
I’d lie upon the beach and think,
I won’t go home today.
I’d come to see me regularly,
On Mothers Day each year’
With gifts picked out especially,
To show me how I care.
I’d never come to visit
When the work load’s getting high
I’d never be that mean to me,
And I’m not about to try.
I’d never visit weekends,
Turn the place into a mess
Or ask my Other Self to iron
My going out Party Dress
Home is very nice,
But with a clone or two
I could enjoy the very best,
Of both worlds! Wouldn't you?
