Here's Alison: Going Into Business (Aged Six)
A six-year-old is already thinking in a tough business way in this poem by Alison Ross.
‘Would you like to go into Business son?
My Dad asked me today,
I said ‘I really would,
But I didn’t know the way!’
So Dad sat down and told me,
I’d have to find a job,
And then he would explain to me,
How to make an Honest Bob!
He said it just so happened
There was one, he could offer me,
It’s kind of hard, he told me,
But it pays well you see!
‘I have these mixed up samples…
I’ll show you where they’re stored,
I need them all in order,
And put back upon the board’
I said that I would do it,
But it would take forever!
He showed me how it wouldn’t,
My Dad is really clever!
"You ask your mates to help you Son,
And you pay 50 cents to both,
And you’ll have $4 over…"
Well I would, but I am loath!
I could see what Dad was saying,
But a whole Dollar? That’s the Earth!
So I told my Dad I wouldn’t,
I’d only pay them what they’re worth!
