Here's Alison: Kawasaki
Alison Ross addresses this poem to an 18-year-old son who has announced that he is getting a motorbike.
So you’re going to buy a 100
Kawasaki, like your Dad,
Well I don’t know if I’m sorry
Or whether I am glad
You’ve worked your way through four cars
Since the day you turned fifteen,
And now you’re nearly eighteen,
You think you’ve made the scene!
You’ve always wanted bikes,
Now you’ve finally got your way.
We’ve decided you can please yourself,
It’s you who’ll have to pay,
If you decide to skylark,
And your silly neck you break
It’s the price you’ll have to pay,
It’s the risk you’ll have to take!
But whatever you decide to do,
You must surely understand,
It was you who bought the bike,
It was you who made the plan!
So do not come a-whinging,
Or any such-like stuff
Because my darling Son,
We’ve finally had enough
And one day if you make it
And you’ve grown into a man,
Perhaps we will applaud
The wisdom of your plan
But right now at this moment,
It doesn’t bring much joy,
It only serves to prove...
You’re still a little boy!
