Here's Alison: Good Old Skip
Alison Ross feels the time has come to remember without pain the days of good Old Skip.
My lawn holds an untidy patch…
Where the sod was turned in June,
And as the sun shone bright today,
I felt I must, quite soon,
Take my memories, locked away,
And bring them to the fore,
While remembering all the good times,
Let it hurt no more!
I could not make your grave,
A flower growing plot,
I could not even glance that way,
My guilt would let me not!
For I would see your eyes,
Pleading "Let me live"
I needed time Old Friend
Before I could forgive,
The thing I did that day,
I’d thought to save you pain,
And let the Vet put you down,
While you struggled all in vain!
But today the sun shines bright
And I know the time is nigh,
When I will plant your grave
And have a little cry.
For once the memories start,
I’ll really let them rip,
Remembering, without pain,
The days of good Old Skip!
