Here's Alison: Waiting For Dad - (Aged Five)
A five-year-old boy goes running away over the fields in this poem by Alison Ross. But is it the boy who is straying, or his father?
I waited for ages and ages Dad,
And to me, it was perfectly clear,
You hadn’t come to get me Dad
You’d forgotten about me, I fear,
So I wondered what I could do,
Then I had this ‘ thought’ in my brain,
If I went across the footy fields,
I’d find the ‘Kindy’ again!
So away I went at a run,
Over one field, and then over two,
And I came to a busy road, Dad,
But I knew what to do!
I looked to the left, and I looked to the right,
And waited for the cars all to pass,
Then I ran across the road Dad,
Very very fast!
I went into the ‘Kindy’
And the teacher said to me,
Hello Young Man, why are you here?
And I said ‘Well, it’s like this, you see’
I told her then, that you hadn’t come,
And how I thought I would come for a play,
So she got on the phone and rang you Dad,
And that’s why, you’ve still got me today!
