Blue, Green, Red and Purple: Love Affair

"I could hardly breathe, believe...this wondrous thing was happening to me..'' Betty Collins writes of the joy of love - and of what follows that joy.

It was just an ordinary, dull old sort of a day
When my friend dragged me along to the meeting;
I didn’t really want to go.
As we entered,
His eyes met mine -
Sparkling and piercing across the crowded room:
I felt my flesh leap,
My eyes twinkle too;
I had to drop them for fear of seeming too bold,
Telling too much, too soon - I felt shy.
I could hardly wait
Until the next meeting -
Would he? Could it be? ...
It could, he would.
He came over, gripped my arm, made small talk -
Oh! Yes! Oh! Joy! -
I could hardly breathe, believe - This
This, This Wondrous Thing
Was Happening,
Happening
To Me.

A third time we met.
It was raining,
I was late.
The magic was gone.
He didn’t like me anymore.
The hell with him too.
