Here's Alison: Shut Up Safe - As Told By Parker The Cat

Parker the cat loves to roam on moonlit nights. But do those grownups understand? Do the heck! Alison Ross's poem explains all.

I’m having trouble with my Mum,
I’m going to sort her out,
She doesn’t understand meow,
Or what it’s all about!

I’m not a silly kitten,
I know I’m six or seven,
I love to roam on moonlight nights
Beneath the starry heaven

My Dad too, is a traitor
He sits upon the fence
He says he hasn’t any choice,
He thinks that I am dense!

They shut me in each night,
And I can’t get out no-way,
I just sit beside the window,
Until the break of day!

I try to wake my Mama up,
At three and four and five
But not before the stroke of six,
Will she come alive.

She says she is protecting me
From dogs that kill on sight
Treats me like a kitten,
So I’m shut up every night!

One day I’m going to bite her,
Cause she isn’t being fair
I’ll tell her what I think of her,
And meow right in her ear.

I don’t believe these stories
Of dogs that kill on sight
I love the moon that lights the sky
When I go out at night.

But now I’m treated like a kitten
I don’t get any say…
I wish that I could pack my toys,
And simply run away.
