Blue, Green, Red and Purple: Christmas Psalm
Betty Collins's Christmas psalm is for this special time - and for all time.
Let us give praise unto the Lord: for He has given us Christmas:
The cities of the world light up: in every church and storefront
His glories shine forth: and His light sparkles in the eyes of Children.
Preserve us, O Lord, from the views of the jaundiced: conserve our Happiness,
That we shall not believe that all is rank commercialism: or that it is the Evil One alone that prevails upon us to Buy,buy,buy; or to Spend,spend,spend:
Let us have the kind of Insight which sees only the Upside: that it is the Living Good,
And only the Good which draws thy servants together at this time: that leads us to give; to come forth and sing:
That causes us to look upon all that is happiness, to make great Feasts,
To come together, to make new covenants: even though these covenants may last only until the second of January:
My soul binges on the Syrup and Heady wine of Love: I stagger before the lights of the Christmas Tree: I forget the shadows of the Bushes.
Yea, my ears are open only to all that is joyous; my tongue to all that is sweet and rich:
Let the Lord of Glory open my eyes not only to the evil of the Best: but also to the holiness of the Worst, and also indeed to the Blessedness of the Infidel, who is also thy Creation and thy Blessed Child;
For Thine is the Kingdom to which I would want to belong for ever:
Amen.
