This and That: Nativity Play - My Part In It

“Wise Men are special, and teacher chose me..’’ Elsie Eva’s poem gives a funny, child’s-eye account of that very special play.

I was just one of those kings -
Me and two others, all carrying things.
Shane wore a gold cloak and Marlon had red.
I wanted khaki - I got blue instead.

I was just one of those blokes,
Wearing our underpants under our cloaks.
Shane’s pants had Tweenies and Marlon’s had not,
And mine was the only clean pair that I’d got.

I was just one of the three;
Wise Men are special, and teacher chose me,
Me and two others who came from afar.
We all brought Him presents and mine was a jar.

I was just one of those men
Who came to see Jesus, then went home again.
And we gave the baby three gifts from us boys;
He’d be disappointed - he’d rather have toys!
