Bradford Lad: What Have They Done To Santa?
Mike Coatesworth deplores the politically correct rules directing encounters between children and Santa.
Well folks it appears that after serving the world faithfully for over a hundred years, Santa’s days could be numbered?
I read that there are new rules for Santa and his fairy grotto. No longer is he allowed to have a private conversation with a child. Conversations must be in public. He’s not allowed to bounce a child on his knee, or give a child a hug or a kiss. He is not allowed to touch a child at all without a parent's or guadian's permission. A child can sit close to Santa, but no holding hands.
I do not know who came up with this set of rules. I’m sure they are just ontended to cover every eventuality. But what about the children?
Since Victorian times, when the exchanging of presents at Christmas first began, Santa has been, filmed, cartooned, photographed, with children on his knee. He has become the children’s saviour. Children get excited when they see him and sit quietly in front of the television when his films are shown. Parents queue for ages to have their children photographed sitting on his knee, so that they can “ooh and aah” as they show the pictures to family and friends with pride.
So why is Santa being considered as a pervert? Is it this the political correctness (which I still can’t fathom) that is now part of modern society? What happens if you have a boisterous and excited child who, before anyone can stop him/her, runs up to Santa and jumps on his knee. In a few seconds, Santa will be liable to be charged, and, if convicted, placed on the sex offenders register for ten years.
ill it stop there? I don’t think so. We all know that a child’s mind works overtime. When it’s explained to them why they cannot sit on Santa’s knee, they will straight away back off and become scared of him. A child could be scarred for life. From being a friendly, more mature person, Santa becomes dirty ol’ git. All men with white beards formerly seen in the image of Santa, generally known to children as friendly people, will have to shave off their beards to avoid being classified as perverts.
Nobody will ever volunteer to be Santa. Santa will disappear from the scene.
I realise that we have to protect children, but do we have to do it in such a way that they will run screaming every time they see a man with a beard?
Well I still believe in Santa. He’s got my Christmas letter, unless someone has made up a rule forbidding the of writing letters to strangers,
Come on folks, wise up! Each one of us is a child at heart. We all know Christmas wouldn't be Christmas without Santa!
Time for a cuppa.
If you think my stories are true, then they probably are.
If you think my stories are fiction, then just relax and enjoy the tales.
Meet Mike and read some great stories
