Poetry Pleases: That Feeling
Mary Clemons has a premonition that something bad is going to happen.
Your throat is dry, your voice is weak
A tingling spine makes you meek
Something’s going to happen.
Clasping hands don’t stop their shaking
Your lips are numb and begin quaking
Something bad’s going to happen.
Your senses sharpen, nerves on end
At every sound you turn again
Something bad has happened
Your heart beat quickens, your breath comes short
Your body trembles and knees abort
Mother has arrived.
