U3A Writing: Visits To Gran's

They have such a tiny garden
With not much room at all
I have to sit and watch the fish
Too small to play football...

Lots of good reasons to visit Gran, but there are drawbacks as Mike Eastwood's poem reveals.

I’m going to my Gran’s for tea
I go there quite a lot
They live out in the country
It is a lovely spot

They have such a tiny garden
With not much room at all
I have to sit and watch the fish
Too small to play football

We often go down to the park
And I climb upon the spider
Grandma sits upon the swings
And Grandpa sits beside her-

They sometimes take me to the films
To see Harry Potter’s best
But last time it was Nania
And my Grandpa had a rest-

Today they want to take me out
To somewhere near but very new
I hope its not the seaside
Just to sit and watch the view-

Actually that’s a bit unfair
They will have planned it just for me
We will go somewhere that I like
And perhaps stay out for tea-

They seem to like me going there
I really don’t know why
Sometimes I am a naughty boy
Which makes my Grandma sigh-

But they love me and I love them
And a good time’s had by all
We really play together well
But I do miss my football
