U3A Writing: Competition
Audrey Simmons weaves a 50-word competition winner.
It was in the paper.
“Write a saga in fifty words. Any subject.”
There were hundreds of entries.
Judges: Jemima Blackstock, novelist. Jeremy Crispin, poet. Angus Macginnery, columnist. The editor and I.
Why me? To read aloud.
Large jug of water handy.
“Hubble bubble - double trouble,” I read.
“Divine,” breathed Jemima.
“First rate,” cried Angus.
“So expressive,” extolled Jeremy.
“The winner,” declared the editor.
“Absolute rubbish,” I muttered.
It won.
