Arabian Autographs: Desert To The Rains
Beneath the stars he wanders
Where arid lands link rocky seas…
Angela Townsend’s poem concers timeless human emotions and the ebb and flow of ancient sands.
He wanders in the footsteps
Of a thousand broken lives
Following the whispers
Of a valley full of sighs
His one true love denied of him
Through difference of their faith
Their ancient roots betray them
Together they have no place
The ebb and flow of mountain sands
Soothes the essence of his veins
As Jesus to a broken man
A desert to the rains
Unclothed mountain cathedrals
Woven paths of trodden thorns
Ancient chalky labyrinths
Offer shelter through the storms
Etchings across a watercolour sky
Slowly fade from pink to blue
He sees her eyes as darkness falls
Flaming golden in their hue
The ebb and flow of day and night
Prey’s losses and its gains
The Ibis takes to freedom’s flight
The lion to the plains
Beneath the stars he wanders
Where arid lands link rocky seas
Like shifting sands through open hands
He falls on bended knees
Ocean mists enveloping
Caressing and sublime
He hears her tinkling laughter
Tastes her lips of salty brine
The sprite of the sea embraces him
Her body of coldest ice
On foaming waves that will carry them
To the gates of Paradise
The ebb and flow of tidal sands
For Millenniums they have tried
They will not learn from other men
Who have loved, and lost, and died
