Blue, Green, Red and Purple: Ghazal

Betty Collins writes of dainty little wheelie bins, all shining in the rain.

It’s winter now and clouds are grey and dark
But down the street the wheelie bins are shining in the rain.

Last year the bins were dark and green, and dull and old,
And only passing motor cars were shining in the rain;

But our Lord Mayor dreamed his mushroom dreams
Of bins with coloured lids like poppies, shining in the rain:

So down the street I go, though nameless choosing to remain,
And cannot help but give a little hoot of joy to see
The rows of dainty wheelie bins, all shining in the rain.
