Poetry Pleases: A Final Parting

This poem by David Bennett voices a final farewell plea.

Cry me to sleep no more, my love.
My death is near, my life is done.
But let me soar with the blue-grey dove
Towards the heavens, towards the sun.

Cry me to sleep no more, my love.
Tell no more tales of paradise
Lest my soul fly to the stars above
As I depart the oh so fleeting life.

Share my peace as I sleep, my love,
And dry your eyes upon my shroud.
I am happy. Do not grieve, my love,
Just remember me and hold me proud.

Cry me to sleep no more, my love,
But hear just once this final prayer,
That you should stay on earth, my love,
And find another’s love to share.
