Here's Alison: The Lady Of The Night

"Bond-style Fugitive Meets Her Fate.'' The headline concerned a 33-year-old prostitute who made a James Bond-style escape from police in Queenstown after stealing a watch. After reading the story Alison Ross was inspired to write the following poem.

Perhaps the pickings were too lean
Down there in Inver-cargill town
So that foxie lady of the night
Headed for the ‘rich’ Queenstown.

The footpaths were just cobble-stoned
They were not paved in gold
She knew she’d make no money
From her profession, oh so old.

So she cased out all the shops
Walked into a jewelry store
Where she pinched a pricey watch
And slid quickly out of the door.

They called the Police so promptly
Like all good stores should do
While she escaped up on the gondola
High into the sky so blue.

But the boys in blue decided
They’d wait to make this small arrest
She would come down eventually
So they sat down and had a rest.

But this foxy lady had it planned
She was in excellent shape
And over the heads of the boys in blue
She para-glided, and so did escape.

Those very red-faced boys in blue
Arrested her in time
Though it will take some living down
They finally charged her with the crime.

The moral of this story
Never trust a Lady of the Night
Cause she might leave you looking silly
As she flies right out of sight!

Situated an easy five minute walk from central Queenstown, the gondola is an all weather tourist attraction.
