Here's Alison: The Bag Lady
Alison Ross pities the Bag Lady who, in all weathers, has to deliver that mountain of junk mail.
On her blue Yamaha out for a whirl,
Delivering circulars there goes Merle.
Parks on the footpath when she reaches each street
With ‘Bag Lady’ disguise, she actions her feet.
Scurries fast when she passes the ‘Friendship Mob’
Oh Goddess believe me, she don’t like this job
Though she chats with the goat, grazing the hill
And the cute little pony gives her a thrill.
She dodges the lady fom the Gardening Group
Trips on the kerb and stands in some poop.
She does a good job and earns Brownie Points
While the walking she does is oiling her joints.
She chats with some people, (they don’t look too tough)
Oh Goddess believe me, she don’t like this stuff
So up Hak-a-no-a and Williams and Raynor
She stuffs letter-boxes for a mini retainer.
She’s mentally planning as each box she does probe
The next performance of her Golden Globe.
Oh Doctor she’ll weep, I’m trying my best
I work hard for a day, and need a week for a rest.
While the Doctor admires the performance of ‘she’
And signs for continuance of ‘ACC’.
So down the South Road we see her pass by
And we know she’s a witch from the look in her eye.
Then down comes the rain, she has forty to deliver
She turns her bike right around, with a bit of a shiver.
Back home with the rain pouring right through the roof
Merle sits there and ponders a terrible truth.
‘I could make all this money that takes me forever
If I looked up my stars, I’m surely that clever!
Or an hour now and then, there in the sack
I could make me a fortune, flat on my back.
But it wasn’t worth it, and though it wasn’t Merles day
Back out in the rain she went on her way.
Delivering Junk Mail like a good little girl
With her morals intact, there goes Merle.
And it’s bargains we get, from McDonalds and Pizza
While Merle the Bag Lady hopes nobody sees her!
