She's Back Again: Tolerance

...Remember we are are all the same
Human, flesh and blood...

Lorraine Roxon Harrington's poem is a plea for tolerance.

Mother stands, the candles lit
The plaited bread is there
On her head she wears a shawl
As she says her prayer.

‘Blessed be the Lord our God’
Begins the prayer that’s said
Father takes, and sips his wine
‘A blessing on your head.'

It is the eve of Sabbath
and families round the world
join together at this time,
tomorrow, do no work.

This is a part of Jewish life,
gone on five thousand years,
paid with scorn and ridicule,
paid with pain and tears.

All of us are different
none of us the same,
many have their own Gods
but choose a different name.

All think that they are special
Each thinks they know what’s best
Causing hate instead of loving
Doing harm to all the rest.

Remember we are are all the same
Human, flesh and blood.
The best religion we can know
Is the way to share our love.
