Here's Alison: Recycled Stamps

Many years ago the New Zealand post office issued stamps that would not hold the ink used to frank them. Alison Ross had a young friend who wiped them clean and re-used them.

My dear friend
I’m out of stamps
And it really seems you see
That the least that you could do
Is send some more to me!

I’ll clean them up so carefully
And post every one, a letter
Instead of wasting twenty cents
I’m sure it would be better.

The post-office makes a mint
They really are the most
But I recycle their old stamps
And put them in the post.

No one is writing letters
And my stamp supply is sick
So rush some to me right away
And I will do my trick.

I’ll clean them up like new
Then in the post - diddo
They will go a second time
Many thanks - Kiddo.
