Open Features: The Seven Blunders Of All Time

Author Ellie Braun-Haley announces an interesting just-for-fun contest. This contest is the brainchild of Ellie's husband Shawn, who is an anthropologists/archeologist.

Here is a contest which will not cost you anything and you may enjoy. Please read on and if you are interested go to the link below.

Some folks are running a contest where you can vote for the NEW 7 Wonders of the World. Of course, you have to supply them with an email address and other personal information before you get to cast your vote. These wonders, new or old, celebrate the greatness of humanity.

I did vote for my favorites but then I got to thinking: "Isn't this just a bit egocentric to celebrate humanity's greatness when we screw up far more than succeed?" Even when we get it right, we get it wrong. For example, on Easter Island, the prehistoric inhabitants built huge stone statues that they erected all over the island (one of the contenders for the new 7 wonders), BUT (and there always is a but) at the same time, they managed to completely destroy their island's ecosystem and eventually died out because of it.

This gave me an idea for a different contest - one that celebrates our failures rather than our successes. So I bring to you, the "Seven Blunders of All Time" Contest where you can nominate and vote for your favorite screw-ups! Go to http://www.telusplanet.net/public/shaley/blunder/index.htm to participate and feel free to pass this on to others who might be interested.
