Here's Alison: Housecat
It's one thing to long for the perfectly-behaved cat, but would he really be the special one? Alison Ross's poem will delight friends of felines world-wide.
Oh for a cat
With non- shedding fur
Fat and round like a cushion,
With a deep-throated purr.
Oh for a cat
That walks sedately
Doesn’t tear through the house
At seventy-five, eighty.
Skidding round corners
Upending the mat
But fat and round like a cushion
A proper house-cat.
Oh for a cat
That asks for his tea
And patiently waits
And doesn’t bite me.
Oh for a cat
That sleeps in the morn
Doesn’t poke a paw in my eye
Or mouth when I yawn.
An educated cat
Who likes me to read
Doesn’t lay on my book
Till I give him his feed.
But witty and charming
Who entertains me for hours
Doesn’t dig up the garden
And destroy all my flowers.
But maybe, just maybe
He wouldn’t be fun
So I’d better keep
My Incredible One
