Here's Alison: The Aussies And The Mossies

The canny New Zealanders have reason to welcome those mosquitoe-hating Aussies.

Alison Ross has some fun at the expense of New Zealand's neighbours.

The Aussies came across the Ditch
Thought our weather was a bitch
Told us how the sun does shine
There in Sydney all the time.

Because of rain and heat and all
A few mosquitoes came to call
They liked the sun-baked Aussie skin
Their hypodermics went right in.

Those Aussies cowed in bed at night
And cringed and cussed… boy what a sight
"Your Kiwi skin is really tough
You must be made of cast-iron stuff."

They shook and shivered and they wept
Yet how soundly they in Sydney slept
While here in NZ neath the sheet
Those Aussies were just Mozzie meat.

At last t’was time to board their plane
Their rueful smiles, said never again
We love you all, and we hope you survive
But we don’t like your Mozzies… they eat us alive.

So off to Sydney those Aussies flew
To red-backed spiders and cockroaches too
And crocodiles and slimy snake
And other things for goodness sake!

We are so glad our Kiwi Mozzies
Waited for the sunbaked Aussies
For they easily could have used our skin
To plunge their hypodermics in ...
