The work of the Plunket Nurse, of which I will talk
Starts with the arrival, of baby...and stork
Poor darling arrives, red faced and small
Without any baggage it’s true, none at all.
The Plunket Nurse calls to do her good deed
And advises the new mum, on how to breast-feed
And, if like the cows, the poor dear goes dry
She’ll advise which brand, of milk powder to try.
There’s Ideal, and Glaxo, and Anchor Full Cream
When first offered bottle, he surely will scream.
Now young mum’s at this time, before Plunket Nurses
Often resorted to screaming and curses.
But now they all know, Plunket Nurse will advise
Because she’s well trained, helpful and wise.
And should you find baby just doesn’t thrive
Karatani is where you’ll surely arrive
For this is the place where our sick babies go
And with Plunkets’ help, they all start to grow.
Then back home he will come, to start a real riot
And Mum’s wearing corsets and gone on a diet.
While Dad starts complaining, he’s getting no sleep
And Plunket Nurse says, “What you sow, you shall reap.”
Plunket Nurses see babies,once weekly, sort muddles
And are continually busy wiping up puddles
From fat baby boys who think they are whales
Shooting up waterspouts from their little tails
Plunket nurses come in all sizes and shapes
Wearing plain gray skirts and red lined capes
And help all the young mums, to make babies thrive
So please all be generous at the next Plunket Drive.
