Fast Fiction: Talking

Do philosopher’s go straight to the point when they converse?

Richard Mallinson’s tells a non-communicative tale.

'You've forgotten already, haven't you?'

'Forgotten what?'

'I've forgotten.'

'No you haven't. Tell me.'

Tell you what?'

Tell me what it is that you said I'd forgotten.'

'I've just said that I've forgotten.'

'Oh, this is impossible.'

'Impossible?'

'Yes impossible to have a proper conversation with you.'

'Why is that?'

'Because you're so bloody obtuse.'

'Well, you should talk.'

That's what I'm doing."

'What?'

Talking.'

'No you're not.'

'Yes I am.'

'Well, you're not talking coherently.'

'You must be joking. I'm always coherent. I'm the most coherent philosopher in this university.'

'You used to be perhaps.'

'Used to be?'

'Yes, used to be. You've gone downhill recently.'

'Downhill?'

'Yes .. . you know.'

'No I don't - tell me.'

'You want me to tell you, do you? Is that what you really want?'
