North American Dreaming: Honey Silk

William Burkholder's poem conveys the security of childhood.

A safe haven;
Honey silk beginnings,
Smooth, soft, trusting.

The beginning of a continuous bloom!
Fire in rhythmic gardens red,
flushed,

Stem curling upward to meet
Stamen.
Sun on horizon beckons,

Goodnight.

I sleep in petals' joy.
