Poetry Pleases: From The Redoubt

Betty McKay's poem concerns first thoughts.

Here I linger in the powerhouse ,
Waiting in the dark.
Whilst the engine beats away,
Pulsing out its faithful rhythm.
Hands and fingers, feet and toes,
Twist and turn, touch and part.
Arms and legs strike out in movement,
So I dance within the confine
Of my snug, safeguarded den.
Pacing out the tempo,
Flexing wide my limbs.
Growing larger, growing stronger,
Waiting for the day,
Waiting for the moment
And that sudden rush for freedom
When the big push comes.
