U3A Writing: Out Of The Silence

Monica Duckering's poem tells of awakening to new ideas.

Out of the silence a kite calls,
Its whistling cuts through the air
Like a skater through ice
Drawing the thinnest line of sound.
Out of the stillness
A leaf stirs
At the very tip of the gum tree
As if to show it is still alive.
So many are dying now.
Thoughts are seeping
From my mind
As I emerge from sleep,
Little snails of ideas
Slipping silently out of protective shells
Waiting to be heard,
Waiting to make a trail
On the blank page of the coming day.
