'You talk like somebody out of a cheap novel,' he said.
'Don't be insulting,' she said.
'Well, you do belong in a cheap novel, don't you?'
'Certainly not. I was created in a literary novel.'
'Good heavens -'
'Yes, I thought that would surprise you ... Now I'll have that drink which you haven't so far got round to offering me, if you don't mind.'
'No, I don't mind at all,' he said.
'It's good to be here,' she said in the pub. 'I prefer it here.'
'But you don't belong 'ere, dear,' said one of the women. 'You're from one of them serious novels, aint yer?'
'Well, that's true ... but I don't really belong there. Some of the other characters think I'm a bit too, er, what shall I say ... brash.'
'Yes, yes, dear, an we think you're a bit too high falutin ... so why don't you finish yer beer an toddle off back to yer posh pals?'

'Yes, and I could murder a gin and tonic' She took her coat off and flung herself on to a divan.
