Bonzer Words!: A Flicker of Hope

There’s a chance of revival when you enrol in a University of the Third Age course, as Maureen Foreman's poem reveals.

When the odds are against me and shadows close
on the dreams and the wishes that dare to impose
on the everyday rhythm of the life that I chose,
my spirit is dimmed and my energy goes.

No glory or glamour, no sense in preening,
No chance of fame or fortune or dreaming.
Only the day-to-day cooking and cleaning,
searching for something to find redeeming.

A flicker of hope sparks the flame of survival.
A plan is concocted for a splendid revival.
I’ve found a solution with an uplifting force.
I’ll enrol in the U3A writing course.
