Got The T-Shirt: Primroses

Steph Spier's poem re-emphasises that a bunch of plastic flowers can reveal the grief in a broken heart.

It is Tuesday:
every Tuesday she comes to stand,
head bowed,
plastic flowers in hand.

Alone in rain or shine,
alone amongst the headstones,
talking to herself,
brushing off the grass cuttings.

Washing down the polished granite,
filling up the planter,
changing the silk-flower stems,
trimming the plastic leaves.

Every year primroses giggle out,
poking their noses up round the stone,
where ashes were once interred
along with a broken heart.
