We just stood there, way out in the countryside, trying to decide which sign to follow.

The choice was between Kingmouth and Kraston.

'I'm afraid I haven't got a map,' I said.

'I hate maps,' said Wanda.

I didn't know much about Wanda. We'd met an hour or so earlier when I'd been tramping up the track and she'd been resting.

'Would you like a drink of coffee?' she'd said and I'd sat down with her and we'd chatted for a while.

'Well,' I'd said, 'I must get moving.'

'Do you mind if I walk with you?'

And that was that and here we were ..

'I think I'd prefer to head for Kraston,' I said.

'Oh, I don't like the sound of Kraston . .. it's probably an old place, full of old men.'

'Hey,' I said, 'I'm quite old myself.'

'No, you're not... when I say old I mean really old ... about 60. You're nowhere near 60, are you?'

'Well, actually-'

There you are, then. Let's get going ... to Kingmouth.'
