Here Comes Treble: The Juggler
Isabel Bradley says that she and her husband Leon arrived early at the departure gate for a flight to London.
"We watched a juggler for nearly half an hour. Was he rehearsing? Waiting for friends? Bored? We’ll never know. He left the area and moved on.
"Watching people at airports and speculating about who they are, what they do and where they’re going is usually fun, but on this occasion, it was truly extraordinary!''

Alone,
He sits in concourse vast,
White ball rolling like liquid
From fist to shoulder to forehead and down the other side,
Ever-moving, never-still,
Two balls now,
Flying,
Lifting off from nose and wrist…
Now three, flying high, always moving, always…
And four, in circles up and down,
Behind him, up his back and over his head,
Moving, moving,
From hand to hand, arms crossed,
Two balls criss-crossing below,
Two flying high, all in the air at once,
Moving, moving….
Slowing…
One by one, they fall
Into his open hands,
And are still.
Open-mouthed children
And fascinated, puzzled, adults
scatter applause
then return to toys and books and cell-phones…
The juggler shrugs,
Stows his spheres in ragged tog-bag,
Pulls on a jacket,
And drifts away…
**
Until next time… ‘here comes Treble!’
