Studied at Juilliard School New York, singing Miss Ford in Verdi's Falstaff in a student production.
Adult life
She was chosen by Virgil Thomson to sing in a revival of Four Saints in Three Acts in New York & Paris. She sang Bess in Gershwin's Porgy & Bess London 1952. recital debut New York 1954. Vienna Opera debut as Aida 1958.
She sang Barber's Cleopatra at the New Met Lincoln Center 1966. She was one of the finest Verdi sopranos of her day.
