North American Dreaming: Tears Of An October Sky
William Burkholder’s poem captures the solemn mood of the month of October.

Upon a cafe street,
wet with the tears
of an October sky,
silence fills the air.
A lone remnant wrapper,
dancing along the curb,
and in the distance,
around the corner.
A distant church bell chimes,
the flutter and the flight,
of protesting pigeons winged,
sailing into the tears of an October sky.
