Christmas Every Week: Christmas Quarrel

Arnold Kellett’s poem suggests that you never forget a Hark The Herald shouting match.

We've had a lovely Christmas row!
Can't think how it arose
A 'Hark the herald' shouting match:
We nearly came to blows.

One minute it was 'Silent night',
The next all hell let loose;
Instead of peace on earth we had
A battle of abuse.

Smouldering feelings had flared up,
Fanned by festive tension,
And blazed away with free advice
On things no-one should mention.

Goodwill to all, the angels sang,
And though they do know best,
It's good to clear the Christmas air
And get things off your chest.

To hear what others really think
Beneath their bonhomie
Is worth far more than all the gifts
Unwrapped with pseudo-glee.

Who gave us what a year from now,
We'll scarcely recollect
But not the Christmas when
we weren't Politically correct!
