About Our Words: Who Am I?

Ian Angus from Durban, South Africa, was impressed by Margaret Dunn's article on knowing one's true identity.

Ian writes:

What a lovely article by Margaret Dunn.

I visited a famous social and business mind, Charles Handy, in London recently. In one one of his books, his memoirs, he discusses what Margaret mentions - who am I really?

It makes me think of who I am, and what or who am I trying to be. It seems that the more we live our lives as others want us to live or expect, the further we move away from the real version of ourselves. It is a frightening thing to move away from "ought to be" and "should be" to the real me. This is life's most important journey.

Charles Handy had advised me to do what i wanted to do with my work. I had been - still am - trying to find what i was best suited to doing with my life and my work. He thinks I should do what I seem best suited to do, namely coaching or helping others via reflection and thought, but will it pay the bills I wonder?

He thinks that when you do what is best suited to your nature you are doing much more than merely paying the bills.
What an amazing man, so decent so normal.
