Christmas Every Week: An Old-Fashioned Christmas

Arnold Kellett's sentimental words celebrate an old-fashioned Christmas.

Christmas is the loveliest time,
The happy ending of the year,
And you and I must guard it well
Lest old customs disappear.

Chorus

Oh, for an old-fashioned Christmas,
Like those we can recall:
When in the cosy firelight
The little children's eyes are bright,
As snowflakes lightly fall;
The lights are on the Christmas tree,
There's welcome, cheery company
Let's have an old-fashioned Christmas,
The nicest one of all!

Let's keep Christmas evergreen,
With glossy holly, berries bright;
Hang a bunch of mistletoe
Not too obviously in sight!

Chorus

The sparkle of the Christmas tree,
Shall fill the room with Yule-tide cheer,
The cards upon the mantelpiece
Shall bring our distant loved ones near.

Chorus
